Education and Training:
PAMELA MARSHALL holds degrees in Social Work, BA (Univ. of Berkely, 1968), Psychology, MA (USIU, 1975), and Communications, MA (SFSU, 1990), PhD candidate.
Her psychology studies were undertaken in the first Humanistically oriented graduate program in the United States, established by Dr. Carl Rodgers, who was her graduate advisor.
Her Social Work studies at University of California, Berkeley prepared her for life-long work with an ethnically and culturally diverse clientele, and her experience with child abuse/neglect in the state of New Mexico provided her with invaluable direct experience working with children and families who were survivors of childhood physical, emotional, and sexual trauma.
Ms. Marshall is family systems trained in a Marriage-Family-Child Counseling Program (MFCC) focus for her Masters in Psychology and has a keen awareness of trauma and its impacts on a range of dysfunctional coping and protective mechanisms that present challenges to individual and family health.
Her studies in the Communications field focused on Broadcasting and Journalism, specifically, documentary and social change. She has worked as an investigative reporter, stringer, and Bureau Chief for National Public Radio/KUNM Albuquerque and Santa Fe, reporting on cultural, environmental, and legislative issues pertinent to New Mexico and its residents.
She is published as a free lance writer-reporter from 1975 - 93.
In 1995 she began training for Mediation, first with Albuquerque Mediation Alliance in their general mediation program, then with the Albuquerque Metropolitan Court Civil Mediation Program (internship) and with Bolt Law School's joint Family/Divorce Mediation training with Pepperdine University. Her private practice has primarily been involved with Family and Business Mediations. Formal Mediation certification is new to New Mexico and is currently in process for establishing statewide criteria along some National guidelines. As this situation changes, this website will be updated.
Pamela has been in private practice since 1993. Prior to this time, she worked as a social worker in Child Abuse/Neglect, with adolescents in Residential Treatment and with the chronically mentally ill in halfway house residential treatment and in community mental health.
